Many miners have mined the Rogue River in the vicinity of the famous mining camp of Gold Hill in Jackson County, Oregon. The vast majority of those who have worked in that area have helped to provide a tremendous boost to the local economy of Gold Hill during the summer months. It is important for the City of Gold Hill's leadership to understand that Atkinson's legislation and exhorbant permit charges of $2500 for non residents may mean that you will no longer be coming to this area and spending money on fuel, food, supplies and lodging.

The Board of County Commisioners of Josephine County, Oregon have done a lot in recent months to acknowledge our county's mineral resources and to support the continuance of mining in Josephine County. However, it is important to encourage the commisioners to take a strong stand against this legislation by insuring that the Mining Laws of the United States (better known as the 1866, 170, 1871 and 1872 Mining Acts) reign as the mining law in Josephine County and that the county resists attempts to be bullied by those who ignore or attempt to undermine the Mining Laws of the United States.
